Charlene Falgout joins St. Francis as Chief Nursing Officer

St. Francis Hospital Reviving PrimeTime Program

St. Francis Hospital is focusing on helping people 50 and older live healthier longer lives by reviving the hospital’s PrimeTime program. The program, which was originally launched in 2007 as PrimeTime Seniors, kicks off a new season of life on Tuesday, May 16. Now simply called PrimeTime, the program will provide educational programs and free health screenings.

The 2017 William H. Spurgeon III Award is being presented posthumously to the late Rex Milner recognizing his 28 years of service leading the Medical Explorer Post at St. Francis Hospital (SFH). The ceremony is being held on Tuesday, February 7, at 7 p.m. in the hospital’s Butler Pavilion, 2122 Manchester Expressway in Columbus. John Milazzo joins St. Francis as Chief Financial Officer

Pet Therapy now being offered at St. Francis Hospital

Opinions are mixed over whether talc or talcum powder increases a woman’s risk of ovarian cancer. A jury recently awarded 55 million dollars to an ovarian cancer survivor who said decades of talcum powder use made her sick.

St. Francis Hospital announces Heart Surgery Program Affiliation with The Emory Clinic

St. Francis Hospital’s Cardiac Services program has announced an affiliation with The Emory Clinic’s Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Jacob Davtyan, MD, Assistant Professor in the Emory University School of Medicine’s Department of Surgery and an Emory Clinic physician, joined the St. Francis Hospital medical staff and began seeing patients September 1, 2016.

Alicia Newton, BSN, RNC-OB, C-EFM, Clinical Nurse Educator, was announced today as the 2016 Mercy Award recipient for St. Francis Hospital. The Mercy Award is given to one employee at each of LifePoint Health’s affiliated hospitals each year. Created and named in honor of the late Scott Mercy, LifePoint’s founding Chairman and CEO, the award is the highest accolade that a LifePoint Health employee can receive.

Dr. Sylvester McRae Performs Area’s First ‘Single-Site™’ Robotic Hysterectomy

Dr. Sylvester McRae became the first surgeon in Columbus and the surrounding area to perform an entire hysterectomy using da Vinci® Single-Site™ platform for robotic surgery on May 27. Unlike traditional robotic surgery, which requires three to five small incisions, da Vinci® Single-Site™ technology enables surgeons to make a single incision in the belly button and remove the uterus in less than 60 minutes.

Dr. J. Bruce Carr to Receive Dr. Clarence C. Butler Service and Leadership Award

J. Bruce Carr, MD, will be honored as the 10th recipient of the Dr. Clarence C. Butler Service and Leadership Award at the St. Francis Foundation’s annual Butler Award gala Tuesday, February 4. As Columbus’ first nephrologist, Dr. Carr is credited with bringing dialysis to Columbus, having established the area’s first outpatient dialysis clinic. From 2003-2013, he served as an intensivist and as critical care chief at St. Francis. He also served on St. Francis’ Ethics Committee.

First St. Francis Team Visits ‘Sister Hospital’ in Zimbabwe

St. Francis Hospital Opens Emergency Department Expansion, Continues Progress on New Construction

The second phase of St. Francis Hospital’s’ Emergency Department (ED) expansion opened May 30. The expansion included 14 new patient rooms in the ED’s Cardiac Decision Unit; one new room in its “fast track” area; and a spacious new room for patients awaiting test results. This phase of the ED’s expansion increases its capacity by 74 percent, which will expedite patient care.

St. Francis Hospital will host the groundbreaking of the hospital’s $110 million renovation and construction projects at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 25. Construction of a new four-story tower and a new five-story tower that will add more than 375,000 square feet to the hospital’s main campus.

St. Francis Hospital Plans Robotic Surgical Center of Excellence

St. Francis Hospital has filed a letter of non-reviewability with the state to purchase a da Vinci® Si Robotic Surgical System. With the addition of the da Vinci® Si Robotic System, St. Francis Hospital plans to establish a Robotic Surgical Center of Excellence and recruit gynecologic oncologists and urologists trained in the use of robots for surgery.

St. Francis Hospital was awarded two Patient Safety Awards January 6, 2009. The Partnership for Health and Accountability (PHA) and the Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) presented the prestigious Quality and Safety Award to St. Francis for a project that reduced hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) in patients undergoing a cardiac catheterization, a procedure to test how well the heart is pumping.

St. Francis Receives Chest Pain Center Accreditation!

St. Francis received accreditation as Columbus’ first Chest Pain Center from the Society of Chest Pain Centers on June 26. With this announcement, St. Francis also becomes one of only 378 Chest Pain Centers in the nation and 10 in Georgia.
