November is Diabetes Awareness Month, a time to bring attention to this fast-growing, life-threatening epidemic. Currently more than 34 million Americans have diabetes and this number is expected to increase to 54.9 million by 2030. Increases have been attributed to a rise in obesity rates and an aging population, but new research shows that younger people are being diagnosed with the disease.

A Lung Scan Can Be a Lifesaver

If you are a smoker or a former smoker, and between the ages of 50 and 80, you may qualify or be eligible for a lung cancer screening exam. And it’s an exam that could be a lifesaver. According to the American Lung Association, lung cancer is the number one cause of cancer death in both men and women in the U.S., accounting for approximately one quarter of cancer deaths.

St. Francis-Emory Healthcare invites EMS and community health care providers to join us for an educational stroke presentation from 8 – 11 am on Friday, Oct. 29 at the St. Francis-Emory Emergency Room EMS Bay to recognize World Stroke Day. Presenter Vipul P-V Parekh, M.D., PH.D., MS, will be on site to provide education to hospital staff, physicians and EMS.
