Luther Wolff III, MD, has experience in trauma and reconstructive surgery ranging from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan to the Mayo Clinic. Now, as a physician at the St. Francis Orthopaedic Institute, he brings his considerable skills and insights to patients around our region.

A graduate of South Carolina’s Presbyterian College, Summa Cum Laude, and the Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, GA, Dr. Wolff completed his residency in orthopaedics at the prestigious Mayo Graduate School of Medicine, in Rochester, MN.  While there, he also served as a Senior Associate Consultant in Adult Reconstruction and Instructor of Orthopaedics at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine.

Dr. Wolff came to Columbus in 2005, when he was appointed to an Adult Reconstruction Fellowship at the Hughston Clinic, as well as a Trauma Fellowship at the Campbell Clinic in Memphis.  In 2007, he joined the St. Francis Orthopedic Institute.

From 2002 to 2014, Dr. Wolff served in the United States Army Reserve, resigning as a Lieutenant Colonel. A combat veteran of four deployments working as a forward surgeon in Iraq and Afghanistan, for his service in both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom he received the Global War on Terrorism Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and the NATO Service Medal.  He also earned the Combat Action Badge.

A member of the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Georgia Orthopaedic Society, as well as a Diplomat with recertification in 2016 of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Dr. Wolff continues to make a number of regional, national and international scientific and medical presentations.
