Spine Surgery
Spinal cord disorders or injuries can be caused by trauma, aging, congenital deformities, tumors, infections and/or improper body mechanics. Damage to any part of the back or pressure on nerves in the spine can cause back pain and other symptoms, causing a tremendous negative impact on an individual's life.
Back pain is actually one of the most common medial problems, affecting 8 out of 10 people at some point during their lives. Back pain can range from a dull, constant ache to a sudden sharp pain. Acute back pain comes on suddenly and usualy lasts from a few days to a few weeks. Chronic back pain is pain that lasts for more than three months.
Surgery on the back or spine is needed in only a small percentage of case. Most back problems can be taken care of with nonsurgical treatments, such as anti-inflammatory medication, ice, heat, gentle massage and physical therapy. When the more conservative treatments don't bring relief, back surgery may be recommended by your physician.
