Cardiac Rehabilitation

Cardiac Rehab is a prescribed treatment regimen that involves a medical and physical evaluation as well as nutrition and medication education for a patient after a cardiac incident. We provide an individualized exercise program that will address the cardiac disease and interventions of the patient. Our goal is to improve their strength and stamina so our patients will be able to return to their usual daily routine. All physical activities are performed using a cardiac monitoring system, with a registered nurse and exercise specialists.

Anyone with a history of heart disease or who is at risk of heart disease is a prime candidate for the Cardiac Rehabilitation program. The program is designed for patients who have experienced:

  • Angina Pectoris (Chest Pain)
  • Angioplasty/Stent
  • Congestive Heart Failure
  • Coronary Bypass Surgery
  • Heart Attack
  • Heart Valve Replacement
  • Pacemakers/Internal Cardiac Defibrillators (ICD)
  • Risk Factors for Heart Disease

How It Works

  • To participate, a physician referral is required. We will work with your physician to obtain the needed information.
  • You will exercise in our monitored program. An individual exercise program will be designed for you.
  • We will teach you the skills and tools you and your family need to monitor your progress so that you can eventually exercise independently.

Program Components

Our Cardiac Rehabilitation program emphasizes a safe and personalized approach to recovery through the three "E's":

Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a medically supervised, progressive exercise and education program for individuals with chronic lung conditions. The St. Francis program offers a tailored exercise regimen, information about chronic lung diseases, and guidance for self-management of the symptoms that accompany breathing problems. Our goal is to return you to the highest possible level of independent living.

Anyone with a history of lung disease or who is at risk of lung disease is a prime candidate for the Pulmonary Rehabilitation program. The program is designed for patients who have experienced:

  • Asthma
  • Bronchiectasis
  • Chronic bronchitis
  • COPD
  • Emphysema
  • Interstitial lung disease
  • Post-COVID complications
  • Post-lung reduction surgery
  • Post-lung transplant

How It Works

Every patient has an exercise routine designed specifically for them, based on their needs and abilities. During each activity, your vital signs and oxygen levels are closely monitored.

The benefits of Pulmonary Rehabilitation range from the development of healthy habits and improved physical conditioning to decreased shortness of breath and a reduced need for hospitalization. Many of our patients experience an increase in self-confidence, more ability to perform their daily activities, and a better quality of life overall.

Education services focus on teaching patients about Chronic Lung Disease and self-management of symptoms that accompany breathing problems. We also help you understand breathing techniques, energy conservation, stress reduction, nutrition, and the use of equipment and medications.

We believe a team approach creates the greatest success. Our team is made up of:

  • Your Physician
  • Medical Director of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Department
  • Registered Nurses
  • Respiratory Therapists
  • Exercise Specialists
  • Dietitian

To enroll, you will need a referral from your physician. A Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) may also be required. To determine your specific requirements, just contact our program.

Most insurance companies cover Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
