Sports Physical Therapy
Sports Physical Therapy is a component of the American Physical Therapy Association, which provides a common forum for members of the Association with an interest in sports physical therapy. The mission of the SPTS (Sports Physical Therapy Section) is to promote the identity of the Sports Physical Therapist and to serve its members, athletes of all ages and abilities, the profession, and the community at large through excellence in Sports PT practice, research, education and professional development.
The Sports Physical Therapist is someone who has developed advanced competencies in sports physical therapy. This includes the development of a theoretical rationale for evaluation and treatment skills as well as the attainment of clinical reasoning processes necessary to prevent, treat and rehabilitate injuries in an active population. Sports physical therapists have often completed advanced residency programs that will provide the therapist with clinical experience under the mentorship of a recognized clinical expert.
